About This Site
What This Tool Does
VeteranDisabilityCalculator.com provides a free combined rating calculator and condition-specific guides for U.S. veterans navigating VA disability claims. The calculator implements the whole-person formula defined in 38 CFR § 4.25 and the bilateral factor in 38 CFR § 4.26. Monthly compensation figures reflect the 2026 VA pay tables effective December 1, 2025, published by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Our Data Sources
Every number on this site comes from an authoritative primary source:
- Combined rating formula: 38 CFR § 4.25 (whole-person method) and 38 CFR § 4.26 (bilateral factor)
- 2026 compensation rates: VA.gov official veteran compensation rates, effective December 1, 2025 (2.8% COLA)
- Condition rating criteria: 38 CFR Part 4 (Schedule for Rating Disabilities), including the General Rating Formula for Mental Disorders (§ 4.130) and the Rating Formula for Diseases and Injuries of the Spine (§ 4.71a)
- TDIU criteria: 38 CFR § 4.16 (total disability ratings for compensation based on individual unemployability)
- Diagnostic codes: VA Schedule for Rating Disabilities, VA.gov disability ratings overview
Editorial Standards
All condition guides are written against primary regulatory sources (38 CFR Part 4) and cross-referenced with official VA.gov content. We do not rely on third-party summaries or legal blogs as primary sources. When regulatory language is quoted, it is quoted directly from the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (eCFR).
Pay rates are updated each December when the VA publishes annual COLA-adjusted tables. Condition guides are reviewed whenever the underlying diagnostic codes or rating criteria change.
What This Site Is Not
VeteranDisabilityCalculator.com is an independent informational resource. We are not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, or any veterans service organization (VSO). Nothing on this site constitutes legal or benefits advice. For official determinations, contact the VA directly at VA.gov or work with an accredited VSO, claims agent, or VA-accredited attorney.
The calculator produces an estimate based on the whole-person formula. Actual VA decisions may differ based on examiner findings, evidence of record, and regulatory interpretations not captured by the formula alone.
